Hounslow gets £1.5m from HCA

LB Hounslow has been granted £1.5m for new affordable homes in the borough by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Construction on the site of Elmwood House and Olaf Palme House on Elmwood Avenue in Feltham, Middlesex, is due to start later this year in partnership with Hounslow Homes and United House. The first new homes are expected to be completed by summer 2011.

The council has prepared plans in conjunction with United House, Hounslow Homes and architects, Peter Taylor Associates for a scheme of 20 new homes - a range of one and two bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five bedroom houses.

Cllr Jon Hardy, Hounslow Council’s executive member for housing and service improvement said: “This is fantastic news for Hounslow especially the larger-sized properties: we have a shortage of affordable family-sized homes in the borough which results in families living in over-crowded conditions.”

Jeffrey Adams, group chief executive of United House Group said: “This is the third project for United House, in partnership with the London Borough of Hounslow and Hounslow Homes. Our organisations have formed a strong and successful partnership and together, we are committed to working together to bring high quality housing for the local community.”

A public consultation exercise with local residents on the designs for the scheme is to take place on 4 March 2010 and will be followed by a planning application.
