Ealing approves town centres upgrades

Plans for a £1.5million programme to improve the appearance of 10 shopping parades have been approved by Ealing Council.

The programme includes street furniture improvements, new street signs, resurfaced pavements and footpaths, safer access for pedestrians and improved cycling and parking facilities, with the aim being to make the parades more attractive for visitors and shoppers.

The parades’ upgrade programme covers Greenford Avenue; Horn Lane; The Avenue; Ruislip Road; Oldfields Circus; The Vale (near Acton Park); Beaconsfield Road; Queens Parade; The Vale (Hammersmith and Fulham borough boundary) and Lady Margaret Road.

Councillor David Millican, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “If a parade is tired looking, it can have a negative impact on shoppers and affect the businesses that operate there. I’m sure these improvements will revitalise the parades and make them more user friendly for both residents and business owners.”

The proposed investment forms part of the council’s budget plans for next year and will need to be discussed at a meeting of the full council on Tuesday, 9 March. If approved, consultation will take place with local residents and work could start in October and be completed by March 2011.
